Internal web based management tool data-visualization project

An internal group at Microsoft created a very powerful tool to track the performance of a mobile application anywhere in the world on any storefront to make investment decisions. I utilized Kendo UI data visualization tools to help give a clear understanding of things decision makers would like to see and understand to make informed decisions. I also designed the site to be ‘sticky’ in that the user can set up particular parameters that the site would remember (cookie based) to retain the last state the user back to where they left off. This was a key feature for the global use of this product.

User problem/objective

Being a brand new project I had full design freedom to visualize and design a completely new interface with little concern for underlying development technology. This product was conceived to have the ability to track and monitor specific apps for investment and performance decisions.

My personal course of action

My main approach was to review and understand other specific stock monitorning UI’s and UX’s. Key points and features were to utilize key pop up boxes for simple insight and clear understanding of the huge amounts of information that provides all the data points. My specific UX influence was to make the site very user friendly by taking advantage of setting a ‘state’ where uses could pick up exactly where they left off to monitor specific app performance any where in the world and in every marketplace. I also incorporated an innovative way for all users of this application to leave comments and critical contact information on specific applications.

Results/project outcome

After various rounds of designs and suggestions management and stakeholders were very happy with the design thinking and went forward with development and final UI design.
